We Paticipate in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program
The Green Key Eco-Rating Program is a graduated rating system designed to recognize hotels, motels, and resorts that are committed to improving their environmental and fiscal performance. The City Centre Travelodge is proud to state that we have been given a Four Key rating by the Green Key Eco-Rating Program. This is currently the highest rating given to any hotel in the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario area.
Based on the results of a comprehensive environmental audit, hoteliers are awarded a 1 to 5 Green Key rating and provided with guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce environmental impacts and operating costs through reduced utility consumption, employee training, and supply chain management.
At our hotel, we endeavour to reduce the environmental footprint by reducing, reusing, and recycling wherever possible. Some of the things we have done and are doing to reduce impact on the environment include:
- We have a linen reuse program for guests who are staying multiple nights to help reduce laundry. Guests are able to reuse towels and linens during their stay if they choose.
- We replaced our laundry washer with a brand new highefficiency washer, allowing us to do more laundry with lesswater and energy usage. Our dryers are high efficiency gas dryers.
- Converted our lighting to energy efficient bulbs and fixtures. Nearly 100% of the hotel lighting is with energy efficient flourescent, or compact flourescent bulbs.
- We have signage throughout the hotel requesting guests and staff to turn lights off when not required for energy conservation.
- We train our employees to ensure lights, heating, airconditioning, and electrical equipment is turned off or turned down in guest rooms when they are unoccupied.
- We utilize environmentally friendly cleaning and laundry supplies. 75% of all cleaning products/chemicals are environmentally friendly and we are working to increase that to 100%.
- We have recycling bins available for guest use in our rooms. Housekeeping staff remove all recycleable material from the waste in guest rooms while cleaning, which in turn reduces the impact on the local landfill site. We recycle cardboard, paper products and bottles.
- We minimize the amount of paper based advertising and information pamphlets in the hotel to keep things tidy, and to avoid waste. Bulk soap and paper products are available in our public areas.
- We explore new opportunites to reduce our energy use, and reduce waste in the hotel. We purchase and use items that are made from recycled products whenever possibe.
- All rooms are equipped with a thermostat to help regulate temperature and reduce excessive energy consumption.
- We have installed low-flow shower heads and toilets to reduce water consumption.
- We purchase good quality furniture and materials for our rooms to get improved durability and increased lifespan.
Guests can learn more by speaking with our staff at the time of check-in. We also welcome guest suggestions to improve our performance in reducing environmental impact.
